Annual Meetings - Spring & Fall
The Fall and Spring Annual Meetings feature keynote speakers who address topics such as building self-esteem, effective discipline, sibling rivalry, and children's learning styles.
Children's Book Week / National Library Week
The two national book weeks, in November and April, celebrate a love of books and the importance of reading to children on a daily basis. The WCCA Library Committee plans a week worth of activities in both November and April. Historically, these events have included a guest author and/or illustrator, a Sleepytime Storytime where children come to the Library dressed in their pajamas to listen to stories read by the children's librarian, and a read-a-thon.
The WCCA organizes three children's events during the respective public school vacation weeks in December, February and April. These events vary from year to year but may include singer/song writers, puppeteers, magicians, or comedians.
Cocktail Parties - Spring & Fall
Every year, the WCCA sponsors a Fall and Spring Cocktail Party for all members. The parties are held at different homes in Weston and provide a wonderful opportunity for adults to spend time with friends, meet new people and socialize without their children.
Once a year, an infant-child CPR training course is offered through the WCCA by the Weston Fire Department. There are usually two 3-hour sessions available. Spaces fill up quickly so be sure to sign up early.
This forum provides parents with information on day camps in the area. Since this is not held annually, please see the Day Camp page on this site for detailed information on the area camps
Every Friday morning during the school year, from 10:15-12:00, the WCCA hosts a "Drop In" playtime at the Weston Community Center. WCCA members and Weston residents are invited to come and play with their young children and meet other moms, dads, or nannies. The hosts set up the large space with tumbling mats, slides, ride-on toys, balls, baby strollers and a quiet reading area. It's a great way to get out of the house, meet with friends, and let your kids run off some steam... especially during those long winter months. Hope to see you there!
Costumed kids of all ages will gather behind a fire truck that will lead a parade around the Town Green. Cookies and juice will be served immediately following the parade.
Parents and family members of incoming kindergarteners are invited to celebrate the first day of kindergarten. The event is an opportunity to meet other families of new “K’s”, members of the school administration team, and representatives from the PTO.
The Kindergarten Forum is an information session held in the spring for parents of children entering kindergarten the following fall. Presentations are given by the superintendent of Weston Public Schools, the principals of Woodland and Country School, a kindergarten teacher and current kindergarten parent.
Pack a picnic and bring the family to the Town Green for the annual Memorial Day concert following the Memorial Day Parade.
New Member Coffee / New Member Reception
New members are invited to come meet the WCCA Board Members and Age Group Heads to get acquainted with the organization. The New Member Reception is held on an evening in the Fall and is for parents only. The Spring New Member Coffee is on a weekday and parents are invited to attend with their children.
This is a wonderful event for the entire family that you won't want to miss. Dad's volunteer to cook up pancakes and other breakfast treats for the whole family. It's a great way to take the chill off during a cold mid-winter weekend.
Parent Discussion Groups are organized to share parenting experiences with other WCCA Members. The discussion groups provide an opportunity for parents to exchange information and ideas with other parents as well as to relax with new and old friends. Because the groups select the topics, the discussions are relevant and interesting. The groups meet monthly from October to May, at times and dates most convenient to participants. The meetings take place at participants’ homes on a rotating basis.
Each age group hosts a Potluck Dinner in January. A family from each age group volunteers to host the dinner, and the age group members who attend the dinner contribute a menu item. In most instances, the hosts choose a certain type of cuisine as a theme for their dinner. It’s a perfect way to end the evening, and a fun time is always had by all!
Come join the WCCA and other Weston organizations for a community day of fun and activities. Join in the fun of the Spring Fling activities which typically include a Moon Bounce, face painting, and a picnic on the Town Green.
